Share announces tour dates, weekly videos
In support of its new album and upcoming tour dates, Halifax’s Share has been releasing one video a week for every song on Slumping In Your Murals, the band’s new album which hit stores earlier this month.
Share formed in 2005, but frontman Andrew Sisk says the group (also featuring Kyle Cunjak, Nick Cobham, Zach Atkinson and Dennis Goodwyn) didn’t really become a proper band until 2005. They started working on the new album in May of last year with producer Daniel Ledwell, recording it all over the Maritimes and in Ontario. Other musicians pitched in, including Jenn Grant, Kinley Dowling and Mike (Snailhouse) Feuerstack.
Sisk describes the new album in a recent press release:
“We believe an album is an important medium where the songs line up to examine one theme or idea. Each song is connected and pursues a different angle of the same concept. On all of the Share albums we have chosen songs that tell a single secret story. Something that has always captured my imagination is the tradition of Central American artists using murals to tell stories. It appealed to me in an innate way. It stayed with me and very much influenced the creation of this album.
“Astrology was on my mind while writing many of these songs and when I started to look back at other songs I wanted on the album I noticed a trend of thought: wanting to know the future, how time and place play with/against each other, etc. It dawned on me that if our destinies lay in the stars, then all of our stories are up in the sky amongst the constellations, like a big mural in the sky. If slumping is a posture that captures the mood of this album then the songs are the murals, hence Slumping In Your Murals.”

York Redoubt releases debut
Halifax band York Redoubt will celebrate the release of its self-titled debut LP on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Halifax’s The Seahorse. The show will feature opening sets from The Lodge & Bloodhouse.
The Halifax-based four-piece (featuring Mike Wright, Noah Dalton, Brad Lahead and Caleb Langille) has been lauded by Exclaim! as “the bastard child of Sonic Youth and Fleet Foxes.”
York Redoubt (Noyes/Hot Money Records) was recorded by Charles Austin (Superfriendz, Buck 65) and Dave Ewenson (Brent Randall & His Pinecones, City Field).
In addition to the band’s Sept. 5 show, it will return to The Seahorse on Sept. 25 for another show.
Black Moor tours the east
Diminished Fifth Records has announced that Nova Scotia thrashers Black Moor will be joining Colorado’s Fear Before (formerly Fear Before the March of Flames) and Baptized in Blood from Toronto on the east coast portion of ‘The Hunt for Shred October’ tour on the following dates:

In-Flight Safety embarks on national tour this fall
Presented by Exclaim! Magazine, In-Flight Safety is gearing up for a national tour this fall in support of their latest album, We Are An Empire, My Dear. The Halifax-based group will be joined by Regina’s Library Voices on all dates and Milks & Rectangles for the east coast dates.
East coast dates are as follows:
Oct. 14 – Charlottetown, PEI – Hunter’s
Oct. 15 – Fredericton, NB – The Capitol
Oct. 16 – Moncton, NB – Paramount
Oct. 17 – Halifax, NS – The Seahorse
Moncton songwriter night returns
The next monthly edition of Songwriters Association of Canada Moncton Songstage, Moncton’s open mic night for original music by singer-songwriters, will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 1 from 9:30 – 11:30 p.m. at St. James’ Gate at 14 Church St.
Among the singer-songwriters of various genres and language of performance who are already registered are Robin Anne Ettles and Sarah Cormier, André Saulnier, Anna-Marie Weir and Julien Simon. Each performer showcases five songs.
Three performance spots remain open for Sept. 1. Pre-registration is required via e-mail to monctonsong@gmail.com, with demo or link to a site where your music can be auditioned.
Songwriters are also welcome to register for Oct. 6. Participants must bring their own instrument. All languages of performance are welcome.
