Fridays with … Tempting Tragedy

(Due to schedule changes, Fridays with … may be undergoing some changes [perhaps a name change?] in the coming weeks. I’m considering running it a different day or just tossing one up at random during the week without a set schedule. Not really sure yet. If you have any feedback on this, please feel free to toss me a line. In any event, I’ll do my best to continue to provide the feature each week as it seems to be well received. Moncton metal band Tempting Tragedy has been around since about 2004, releasing two albums in its lifetime. The band, made up of Marty Surette, Denis Guitard, Fernand Brideau, Steven Basque and Ray Leger, released its sophomore album with a show this past weekend in (more…)

Fridays with … Thought Machine

Formed in Sydney, N.S., Thought Machine released its debut record, appropriately titled Maiden Voyage, earlier this year.

Ron Hynes to release new album

Ron Hynes will celebrate the release of his new album, Stealing Genius, at The Carleton, Halifax, Nov. 16 and 17. Ian Perry and Glenn Simmons will accompany Hynes for both nights, and Simmons will perform a short opening set featuring songs from his debut solo CD, Sweet Vanilla. Show time is 8:30 p.m.

So it’s not Friday, but there’s not much we can do about that now. We’re way late.

The good news is, we’ve got a cool interview here from Seth Bernstein from Halifax pop band The Modern Men.

Music N.S award winners

Nova Scotia Music Week wrapped up this past weekend with an awards brunch and gala awards show, during which more than 240 Nova Scotian musical acts and industry professionals were recognized for their achievements in 2010. 45 winners were chosen by the membership to take home trophies from the largest Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards to date.
